Patient Temperature Management in Cardiac Surgery

Patient temperature management with Mistral-Air® Underbody blanket in “Port-Access®” cardiac surgery

Patient temperature “afterdrop” is one of the most common complications that happen in the postoperative period after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. Unwanted postoperative hypothermia delays post-anaesthetic recovery and patient extubation.
The use of Mistral-Air® Underbody blankets (Koala quality) with the Mistral-Air® Plus warming unit combined with Fluido® blood and fluid warmer in “Port-Access®” (“Heart-Port”) heart valve surgery:

  • prevents body core temperature redistribution
  • allows adequate and uniform patient re-warming
  • avoids body core temperature “afterdrop” after cardiopulmonary bypass

Compared with other systems, the reflective material that is used in the Mistral-Air® Underbody blankets allows the warm air to stay safely around the patient, not disturbing the surgeon and the surgical team during the operation.
Patients undergoing “Off-pump” myocardial revascularization will also benefit from this temperature management protocol using Mistral-Air® and Fluido®.

The Concept Approach:

Mistral-Air® Underbody Blankets & Fluido® AirGuard System

The combination of using a Mistral-Air® Underbody (Koala Quality Blanket) with the Fluido® AirGuard System is found ideal for use during Cardiac Surgery.
